The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy team to deliver operational and service excellence in the store, assisting patients and customers to provide an exceptional experience and ensuring medications are filled promptly, safely, and accurately. Technicians follow Standard Operating Procedures, best practices, and effective communication to contribute to a safe and inclusive culture.
Once in role, Technicians complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements per their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted until these requirements are met.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services as appropriate
- Complete basic inventory activities as directed, including putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and returns-to-stocks
- Support a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; travel to stores in the market as needed
- Understand and comply with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy
- Deliver additional patient health care services where allowable by law and supported by required training (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, offsite clinics)
Where permissible
- Support immunizations, including licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status
- Educate patients about vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty
- Monitor for adverse reactions and report per public health requirements
- Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with state board requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy
- If the state board does not address a minimum age, candidate must be at least 16 years old
- If the state board does not address a minimum education requirement, candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
Essential Functions
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
- Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe
- Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot between tasks, ensure label accuracy
- Customer service and team orientation: assist people courteously and respond to patient reactions appropriately
- Communication: clear verbal and written interaction with patients and colleagues; active listening
- Mathematical reasoning: calculate days supply, quantity, and other prescription details
- Problem resolution: navigate challenging interactions and determine best course of action
- Physical demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger use, visual acuity
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs (occasional) and up to 10 lbs (frequent); perform tasks requiring fine motor control
- Support detailed oral communication and receive information effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of Pharmacy Technician experience
- Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs

Pay Range
$16.00 - $25.00 per hour
This pay range represents the base hourly rate for all positions in the job grade. Actual offers depend on experience, education, geography and other factors.
