Job Purpose And Summary: In Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting the pharmacy teams to deliver on the brand promise. Technicians assist the pharmacy team to ensure that operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians operate as part of the pharmacy team through SOPs, best practices, and effective communication.
Once in role, Technicians are required to complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted until all requirements are met by the Pharmacy Manager.
Responsibilities include contributing to safe and effective pharmacy operations and delivering high-quality patient experiences.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; and solve or escalate patient problems as needed.
- Complete basic inventory activities as directed by leadership (e.g., put away deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, waiting bins).
- Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients.
- Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; travel to stores in the market to work shifts as needed.
- Understand and comply with applicable laws, regulations, professional standards and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy.
- Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing) where allowable by law and with required training and certification.
Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, which includes the following responsibilities:
- Complete licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status to prepare and administer vaccines where required by state regulations.
- Educate patients about vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty.
- Monitor for adverse reactions and report events per public health requirements.
- Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient.
- Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with state board requirements or laws governing practice, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
- If not addressed by the state board, minimum age may be 16; minimum education may be a high school diploma or equivalent, or active enrollment in a high school program.
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.

- Communication Skills: use verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues; practice active listening.
- Mathematical Reasoning: use math to determine totals, day’s supply, and bottle quantities.
- Problem Resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose appropriate actions.
- Physical Demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, fine motor control, vision for small parts, and ability to lift up to 20 lbs as needed.
- Express or exchange ideas clearly and receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs.

The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $16.00 - $24.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
