Job Purpose and Summary
Within our Retail locations, CVS Health delivers on its promise with heart every day. Our Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on the brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist patients and customers, delivering an exceptional experience. They support the pharmacy team to ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Technicians work as part of the pharmacy team, applying Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication, while contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.
After hire, Technicians complete a rigorous company training program and must satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Until all requirements are completed, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.
Responsibilities
- Living our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health
- Following pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment
- Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: serving patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; solving or escalating patient problems
- Completing basic inventory activities as directed by the pharmacy leadership team, such as stocking deliveries and performing cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and waiting bin inventories
- Contributing to a high-performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge
- Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs; traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed
- Understanding and complying with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and patient privacy
- Delivering additional patient health care services where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, offsite clinics)
Where permissible, the Pharmacy Technician may also support immunizations, which includes:
- Completing licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines
- Educating patients about vaccines and referring questions to the Pharmacist-on-duty
- Monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting events per public health requirements
- Reviewing and collecting patient information; tracking and documenting for each applicable patient
- Monitoring and managing vaccine supplies
Required Qualifications
- Must comply with state board requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification
- If the state board does not address a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old
- If the state board does not address a minimum education requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled
- State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state
Essential Functions
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe
- Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks and pivot between tasks to meet patient and business needs; confirm prescription information and label accuracy
- Customer service and team orientation: help people in a friendly manner; recognize and respond to patient reactions
- Communication skills: verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues; active listening
- Mathematical reasoning: calculate days supply, number of tablets, and bottle counts
- Problem resolution: identify and act on challenging interactions
- Physical demands: mobility, lifting, reaching, repetitive finger work, vision for small parts; ability to lift up to 20 lbs; adequate stamina and dexterity
- Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service
- Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs

Pay Range
The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is $16.00 - $24.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer depends on factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
