Job Purpose and Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician, you support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store. You are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds expectations. You follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication to maintain a safe, inclusive culture.

  • Adhere to pharmacy workflow procedures at production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off workstations for safe and accurate fulfillment.
  • Create positive patient experiences by showing empathy, offering immunizations and other services, and escalating patient problems when necessary.
  • Perform inventory activities such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and waiting bin inventories, as permitted by law.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge, and provide flexible scheduling across markets.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, and uphold CVS policies for patient safety.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, off‑site clinics) where allowed by law and required training.
Immunization Support (Optional)
  • Complete licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educate patients about vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and report events per public health requirements.
  • Collect and document patient information and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements, including age, education, and licensure/certification. If no minimum age is specified, must be at least 16 years old. If no educational requirement is specified, must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be actively enrolled in high school.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.

  • Problem Resolution: Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands: Mobile and upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, reach overhead, perform repetitive finger movements, have visual acuity for small details, and manage various hand or arm positions.
  • Any additional tasks as directed by supervisor or manager.
