Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, Operations Manager or Pharmacy Director, performs a wide variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide Unit Dose distribution system. Responsible for maintaining confidential reports, procuring and filling requests for pharmaceutical supplies, and delivering supplies to nursing units.

This is a weekend per diem position.
Responsibilities:
- Fill patient or Omnicell envelopes with the correct drug from the Pharmacist’s order entry, prior to Pharmacist’s check, and deliver checked envelopes accurately and timely, using supplemental restock or patient room bin as directed by the Pharmacist.
- Fill, check, and deliver Omnicell medications, correcting expiration dates as needed, utilizing par levels and restock numbers. Complete Restocking Check List.
- Proficient in Omnicell procedures (normal restock, supplemental restock, room stocking, destock, cycle count, and expired).
- Unloading (deleting) and loading medications in Omnicell, accessing inventory aging reports, and adding medications from the Master List.
- Deliver controlled substances accurately, using appropriate procedures for report tracking. Return bin contents with discrepancy notes to the designated narcotic pharmacist. Check expiration of stock epidurals and neonatal morphines.
- Assist individuals at the pharmacy window, answer calls, and direct them appropriately.
- Maintain dress code as per policy/procedure.
- Prepackage and label medications in unit dose form from bulk supplies according to policy and procedures.
- Fill code boxes for pharmacist checks, assemble SANE, intubation, OBS kits, and TB medications as assigned.
- Check inpatient and ED units for transfer of bulk medications daily using transfer lists.
- Record refrigerator temperatures daily and notify the Operations Manager or pharmacist of deviations. Assist in quality assurance activities.
- Prepare medications according to Pharmacy guidelines, calculating and measuring dosages under pharmacist supervision.
- Verify IV labels and deliver admixtures as scheduled, with proper return of unused IVs. Update hourly refill lists.
- Handle oncology medications safely and dispose of all related materials properly.
- Perform quarterly medication unit inspections, including Omnicells, treatment/procedure rooms, clean rooms, and code cart expirations. Complete monthly expiration reports and clean dispensing units during inspections.
- Assist in training personnel, return medications to stock, and maintain an organized workspace.
- Maintain inventory control and supplies, checking expiration dates and rotating stock in Pharmacy and nursing areas.
- Assess IV admixture room and department needs, place tri-weekly orders, and receive items timely.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/APTITUDE/EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to work with sustained attention and precision on routine, repetitive tasks.
- Follow oral and written instructions accurately and dependably.
- Distinguish routine functions from those requiring professional judgment.
- Undergo a 3-4 month orientation to become familiar with drug names, strengths, dosage forms, routes of administration, policies, procedures, and unit locations.
- Require 2-4 months of sterile product preparation experience for IV admixture duties.
- Able to bend, reach, and move freely throughout the hospital using a delivery cart.
- Prior hospital experience preferred.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Technical/Other:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; background in science and mathematics preferred.
- Experience: Prior hospital experience preferred.
- Certification/Licenses: Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician in Massachusetts or eligible for registration.
- Software/Hardware: Experience with Meditech, IDX, and AllScripts preferred.
