Job summary

UPMC Hamot Pharmacy in Erie, PA seeks a Full-Time Supervisor of Pharmacy Technicians to lead daily pharmacy operations and supervise technicians in a high‑quality acute‑care setting. You will oversee staffing, workflows, and cross‑functional collaboration with pharmacists and nurses to ensure safe, efficient patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of five (5) years of Pharmacy Technician experience required, including at least two (2) years in a leadership, lead, or supervisory capacity.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assist in developing departmental procedures, goals, and operational improvements.
• Ability to evaluate operational challenges and recommend effective solutions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacy staff, hospital departments, vendors, nursing teams, and medical staff.
• Proven leadership and supervisory abilities, including planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the work of team members.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and projects.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing operational needs.
• Proficiency with computer systems and pharmacy-related technology.

Responsibilities

• Oversee procurement and inventory control functions.
• Determine drug quantity stock level and ensure adherence to cost savings initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with DEA regulations concerning procurement and purchasing of controlled substances.
• Establish and maintain effective communication mechanisms within the department.
• Ensure department compliance with all regulatory requirements including JCAHO, PA Department of Health, FDA, DEA, USP, and OSHA.
• Maintain the department in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations with regard to the practice of pharmacy.
• Supervise pharmacy personnel to provide high-quality, accurate, expedient services.
• Coordinate daily activities of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
• Assist the Director in recruitment of pharmacy staff.
• Ensure staff are oriented to and prepared to perform all job standards.
• Measure performance and conduct annual appraisals; counsel staff as needed.
• Remain abreast of developments in pharmacy and healthcare in order to drive improvements.
