Job summary

UPMC Harrisburg is seeking a full-time Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our dynamic team. You will support pharmacists in preparing, dispensing, and delivering medications for patients of all ages, and provide leadership and mentorship to fellow technicians to ensure smooth daily operations and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, manage, and remove expired or recalled medications across pharmacy, patient care, procedural, and off-site areas
• Prepare, label, dispense, and deliver medications (sterile and non-sterile) under pharmacist supervision, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Compound IV admixtures and specialty products using proper aseptic technique and required calculations
• Repackage, label, and handle medications—including controlled substances—while completing all required documentation
• Stock, refill, and maintain automated dispensing cabinets and medication inventories to support patient care needs
• Deliver medications to patient care units and manage transfers or returns as needed
• Provide leadership by training and mentoring pharmacy technicians and students; ensure competencies and training documentation are completed
• Support daily pharmacy operations by assisting customers, managing communication systems, and using pharmacy technology and equipment
• Promote quality, safety, and efficiency through performance improvement initiatives, special projects, and workflow optimization
• Serve as a role model and team leader by demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, collaboration, and commitment to UPMC’s mission and values
