Position Overview

This position assists the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, as well as supporting nursing and medical staff. Responsibilities include preparing and packaging medications, distributing supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory, ensuring medication security and expiry, keeping records, and submitting charges/credits. The role also supports initiatives of area supervisors and managers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be registered with the State of Maryland as a certified pharmacy technician or as a pharmacy technician trainee, with certification achieved within 15 months of hire.
• If employed in Maryland, national certifications are waived.

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).
• Previous hospital experience is preferred.
• Experience with aseptic technique is preferred.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

These include preparing medications, maintaining accurate records, ensuring efficient operations, working under a pharmacist's supervision, managing inventory, inspecting storage standards, maintaining cleanliness, interacting with healthcare professionals, attending continuing education, complying with rules, demonstrating teamwork, confidentiality, and professionalism.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Effective stress management.
• Sufficient visual and hearing capabilities for communication.

Work Environment

• Indoor work, in proximity to others.
• May require long periods of sitting or standing.

Skills and Abilities

• Basic knowledge of the metric system and good math skills.
• Familiarity with pharmacy terminology.
