Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician‑Level 2 assists the Pharmacist with technical and non‑technical routine duties linked to acquiring, storing, and dispensing medications, chemicals, and related supplies. Responsibilities include preparing medication orders, operating automated dispensing machines, delivering medications to nursing units, filling medication carts, and performing routine clerical tasks. The Technician may prepare IV solutions, piggybacks, and TPNs under Pharmacist supervision.

Work Environment

Potential exposure to hospital hazards such as infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and injury. Requires standing/walking 90% of the time and reaching/lifting up to 30–40 pounds.

Performance Expectations

Demonstrate competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

Responsibilities

Hospital

• Assist the Pharmacist with technical and non‑technical routine duties regarding acquisition, storage, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
• Prepare medication orders, operate automated dispensing machines, deliver medications to nursing units, fill medication carts, and perform routine clerical tasks.
• Prepare IV solutions, piggybacks, and TPNs under Pharmacist supervision.
• Provide quality customer service and support performance improvement efforts.

Outpatient

• Assist the Pharmacist with routine duties related to acquisition, storage, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
• Screen prescriptions, interact with patients and customers, perform prescription profile services, and prepare prescriptions for dispensing.
• Perform cashier functions and routine clerical duties.
• Perform other dispensing duties as per established policies and procedures.
• Provide quality customer service and support performance improvement efforts.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certification: Registration with the NJ Board of Pharmacy required within 6 months of hire; National Pharmacy Technician Certification required.
• Experience: 1 year pharmacy experience preferred.
• Skills: Good math, customer service, and clerical skills.
