Job Overview
The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical, and manipulative tasks involved in preparing and distributing medications. This role supports all patient age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, to ensure safe and effective medication management.
Required Qualifications
- NJ Board of Pharmacy registration in good standing
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Proficiency in regulatory requirements and compliance with established hospital policies
Preferred Qualifications
- PTCB certification
- Associate or Bachelor's degree
- Previous pharmacy experience
Scheduling Requirements
Essential Functions
- Works with medication management technology including automated dispensing cabinets, inventory carousels, repackaging software, and the EMR.
- Assists the Registered Pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications, including training in aseptic technique for IV solutions.
- Promotes patient safety and positive outcomes by ensuring formulary compliance, cost‑effective practice, and productive teamwork.
- Identifies and reports hazardous environments, safety issues, or medical errors to appropriate personnel to support optimal patient care.
- Maintains proficiency and strictly conforms to all written hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Assists in meeting the hospital's mission by actively contributing to a positive work environment and professional staff relations.
- Responsible for any other assigned tasks or projects based on departmental needs.
