Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist licensed pharmacists with preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications across our Illinois facilities.

No prior work experience is required; a High School Diploma or GED is required, and certification through CPhT or ExCPT must be obtained within 18 months of start date. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with potential immunization support and sterile compounding.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Certification required within 18 months: Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or National Healthcareer Association (ExCPT).
• No prior work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed pharmacist with technical duties in medication preparation and distribution.
• Accurately select, prepare, and label medications including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assist with medication distribution tasks.
• Screen calls and route them using proper telephone etiquette.
• Support procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
• Complete documentation for removal, stocking, and wasting controlled substances where applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding per USP standards where applicable.
• Perform sterile IV admixture using aseptic technique where applicable.
• Inspect storage areas for policy adherence.
• Document medication admission histories and perform data entry for records and billing purposes.
• May participate in quality improvement initiatives and training of pharmacy technicians.
