Department: Central Inpatient Operations

Location: Dallas, TX

Shift: PRN, Day Shift 6:00am - 5:30pm; Includes weekends. Must fulfill 2 10 hour shifts per week

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the pharmacy technician team lead and pharmacists, the pharmacy technician II is responsible for preparing unit dose medications, compounding sterile preparations, and delivering medication to patient care units.

Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all pharmacy technician I responsibilities such as preparing non-sterile admixtures, including hazardous medications; perform computer entry for missing doses, patient charges and credits, and other documentation; deliver or restock medications; deliver pharmacist code box; assist in maintaining overall cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintaining a continuous level of readiness for inspection by external groups.
  2. Prepare parenteral products under the direction of a pharmacist, utilizing aseptic technique adhering to USP 797 guidelines in accordance with policy.
  3. Maintain competency and aseptic technique validation per departmental policy.
  4. Prepare non-sterile admixtures, including hazardous medications.
  5. Answer phone calls and respond to the needs of the caller and/or direct them to the appropriate person for service.
  6. Ensure compounding/clean room areas and related equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and maintained in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  7. Deliver controlled substance medications to patient care areas according to Pharmacy guidelines and standards operating procedures. Replenish medication carts and automated dispensing cabinets.
  8. Check and maintain inventory levels; check for expired/unusable products and dispose of them properly.
  9. Attain/maintain knowledge of all pharmacy computer systems, including electronic medical records (EMR), from the standpoint of a user of the system.
  10. Perform job responsibilities in accordance with organizational and departmental policies, procedures, performance improvement objectives, and environmental and infection control standards.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least 2 years pharmacy-related experience Required

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required
  • 20-hour ACPE accredited IV training course Preferred
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Required
  • National Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Preferred
