General Summary / Responsibilities
- Enter information into and retrieve information from a database or patient profile
- Prepare and affix labels
- Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve them from inventory
- Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers
- Place dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
- Perform non‑sterile drug compounding after completion of site‑specific training
- Perform sterile drug compounding after completion of site‑specific training
- Stock automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
Qualifications
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
- Preferred: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE‑accredited technician education and training program
Licensure / Certification / Registration
- Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job‑related work experience
- Preferred: Prior hospital, long‑term care or retail experience
Knowledge / Skills
- Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem‑solving skills
- Able to read and write printed material in English
- Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
- Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training; must be familiar with pharmacy software
- Ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as a team member
- Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
