General Summary / Responsibilities

1. Enter information into and retrieve information from a database or patient profile
2. Prepare and affix labels
3. Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve them from inventory
4. Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers
5. Place dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
6. Perform non‑sterile drug compounding after completion of site‑specific training
7. Perform sterile drug compounding after completion of site‑specific training
8. Stock automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts

Qualifications

Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED

• Preferred: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE‑accredited technician education and training program

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
• Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire

Experience

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job‑related work experience

• Preferred: Prior hospital, long‑term care or retail experience

Knowledge / Skills

• Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem‑solving skills
• Able to read and write printed material in English
• Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
• Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training; must be familiar with pharmacy software
• Ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as a team member
• Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
