Job summary

Hocking Valley Community Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists in daily operations. This PRN position involves preparing, dispensing, and delivering medications and maintaining accurate patient records in a busy hospital setting.

You will assist with medication orders, IV admixtures, and inventory management while upholding strict safety, confidentiality, and customer service standards in a patient-centered environment.

Qualifications

  • PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification current or must obtain within 180 days.
  • Current active State of Ohio Pharmacy Technician license issued by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.
  • Math proficiency demonstrated by passing of test.
  • Ability to work quickly with accuracy and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to type and use basic Windows computer applications.
  • Sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive issues and material.
  • Ability to interact and work well with the public, remaining professional and courteous under hectic and stressful situations.
  • Proper phone etiquette.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, dispenses, and delivers pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
  • Setting up, packaging, and labeling medication doses.
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures, parenteral nutrition solutions, cancer chemotherapy medications, enters medication orders and maintains patient profiles, and assists the pharmacist in clinical duties, medication dispensing and order filling.
  • Refilling of automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Follows department policy and procedure for preparing and dispensing pharmaceuticals under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Develops and maintains pharmacy Information system order entry and report generation skills. Reviews medication inventory, places vendor orders, receives medications, and processes paperwork.
  • Delivers, picks up, and debits/credits pharmacy items from nursing areas.
  • Maintains complete and accurate patient records. Performs clinical pharmacy support services and interventions.
  • Provides service excellence to the customers of the organization by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of technician capability.

JOB SUMMARY

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Current active PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or must obtain within 180 days of starting.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment
  • Works in a patient care setting where there is potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials; and electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
  • Fast-paced setting with rapid patient turnover.
  • High patient traffic.
  • Close-quartered and shared work space.
  • Sufficient mobility to negotiate physical plant.

  • Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergency patient care needs in an ambulatory setting.

  • Ability to work in a computerized environment that includes prolonged sitting and use of keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Cognitive ability to accurately observe, analyze, and interpret general and technical data both verbal and written to accurately communicate this information.
