Job summary

Atrium Medical Center's Pharmacy Department in Middletown, OH, is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to work under a pharmacist's supervision. Duties include entering and retrieving patient data, labeling, stocking dangerous drugs, counting and pouring, and assisting with sterile and non-sterile compounding after training.

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, basic English literacy, and proficiency with pharmacy software and Microsoft Office are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school completion or GED.
  • Preferred completion of ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician program.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) and Ohio Board of Pharmacy registration eligibility within 45 days.

Responsibilities

  • Enter and retrieve data from patient profiles or databases.
  • Prepare and affix labels for medications.
  • Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve them from inventory.
  • Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers.
  • Place dangerous drugs into containers before dispensing by a pharmacist.

Status: Full-time - 700am-330pm900am-530pm,100pm - 930pm, 300pm-1130pm

Department: Pharmacy

Facility: Atrium Medical Center

A certified pharmacy technician, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, engage in the following activities to the extent that the activities do not require the exercise of professional judgment:

  • 1. 1\. Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
  • 2. 2\. Preparing and affixing labels
  • 3. 3\. Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
  • 4. 4\. Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
  • 5. 5\. Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
  • 6. 6\. Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
  • 7. 7\. Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
  • 8. 7\. Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
Qualifications
Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED

  • * Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program

  • * Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • * Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
Experience

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience

Preferred experience: Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience preferred

Knowledge/Skills
  • * Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
  • * Able to read and write printed material in English
  • * Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
  • * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
  • * Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
  • * Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • * Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
  • * Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
