Job summary

Upper Valley Medical Center, part of Premier Health Partners, is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacy Department. Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, you will perform diverse technical tasks and ensure safe medication handling and labeling.

Responsibilities include data entry, labeling, stocking dangerous drugs, compounding (non-sterile and sterile after training), and operating pharmacy equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician program is preferred.
  • PTCB certification and Ohio registration eligibility within 45 days are required or pursued.
  • No prior job-related experience is required; hospital/retail experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enter and retrieve information from patient profiles/databases.
  • Prepare and affix labels for medications.
  • Stock dangerous drugs and retrieve from inventory.
  • Count and pour dangerous drugs into containers.
  • Place dangerous drugs into containers before pharmacist dispensing.
  • Non-sterile drug compounding after training.
  • Sterile drug compounding after training.
  • Stock automated storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts.

A Certified Pharmacy Technician, Under The Direct Supervision Of a Pharmacist, Engage In The Following Activities To The Extent That The Activities Do Not Require The Exercise Of Professional Judgment

General Summary/Responsibilities
Status: Full-Time / 80h per pay period
Department: Pharmacy
Shifts: 2:30-11:00 pm
  • Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
  • Preparing and affixing labels
  • Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
  • Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
  • Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
  • Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
  • Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
  • Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED
  • Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience
Preferred experience: Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
  • Able to read and write printed material in English
  • Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred
  • Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy. Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
  • Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
