Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Pharmacy Technician in Training (PRN) under pharmacist supervision to assist in drug preparation, storage, distribution, inventory, and patient education across pharmacy environments.

This role supports labeling, packaging, communication with nursing staff, and records management to maintain an efficient medication delivery system, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
• Pharmacy Tech in Training eligibility within 30 days of program start; pre-pharmacy track.
• Pharmacy Intern eligibility within 30 days; P1–P4 level internship in pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate, and high-quality medication delivery system.
• Communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, PPE, and patient safety to ensure high-quality care.
• Performs clerical functions such as billing and pharmacy inventory to support efficient distribution of medications.
• Assists with collection and maintenance of records for accreditation bodies to ensure compliance.
• Under pharmacist supervision, obtains patient medication histories and provides education to improve adherence and outcomes.

Education

Pharmacy Tech in Training - Board of Pharmacy for Pre-Pharmacy students within 30 Days or

Pharmacy Intern - Board of Pharmacy for Pharmacy Interns (P1 - P4) within 30 Days
