Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD is seeking a Pharmacy Intern (P1) to assist with drug preparation, labeling, and patient education under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. This PRN role exposes you to inpatient and outpatient pharmacy workflows within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include accurate input of orders, effective communication with nursing staff and physicians, medication safety, and inventory tasks to support efficient delivery of care.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Pharmacy Tech in Training within 30 days or Pharmacy Intern (P1-P4) within 30 days.
• Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, input/prepare labels and packages inpatient or outpatient orders.
• Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, customers, and team members to promote safety.
• Demonstrate knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and safety.
• Perform clerical tasks such as billing and inventory to support distribution.
• Assist with records collection/maintenance for accreditation and policy.
• Under supervision, obtain patient medication histories and provide education.
