Overview

Pharmacy Admixture Technician - Part-Time - Niles, IL

Hourly Range: $20-$25

Scope

Under direct supervision within a licensed pharmacy, performs the technical, nonjudgemental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. Tasks are subject to verification by a registered nurse or clinical staff. Supports adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. State law may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities, which may prohibit certain incumbents from these tasks.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a clinical team member.
  2. Follow US Oncology Network guidelines and protocols. Check all orders for completeness and verify patient information and physician authorization.
  3. Under supervision, admix drugs as ordered, ensuring accuracy and timeliness according to department guidelines and OSHA, USP 797/800 standards.
  4. Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary units. Assist with weekly drug counts and record maintenance.
  5. Dispose of materials used in mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs properly. Assist in cleaning hoods, checking drugs for outdates, and other QA activities.
  6. Maintain accurate temperature logs and documentation for protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  7. Control medication documentation, including lot numbers and expiration dates. Support inventory control, label preparation, billing, and basic data entry.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry-level to three years of pharmacy experience.
  • Knowledge of USP 797, USP 800, and USP 795 preferred.
Physical Demands

Requires full body motion, manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and ability to read measurements. Sitting/standing for extended periods. Occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs. Corrected vision and hearing required.

Work Environment

Exposure to patients, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents. Reasonable accommodations available.
