Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Geologist/Hydrogeologist to join the Underground Storage Tank section, focusing on PFAS initiatives and regulatory compliance. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or related field.
  • Engineering with 30 credit hours of geological science coursework may qualify.
  • Licensure as a Professional Geologist by the NC Board or equivalent is required or considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and support for UST Section and regional offices.
  • Develop and maintain program guidance, policies, and training materials.
  • Assist with PFAS sampling strategies and remedial measures.
  • Maintain databases, document management systems, and UST site records.
  • Engage with stakeholders, consultants, and the regulated community.
  • Participate in outreach and training on regulatory requirements.
