Job summary

State of North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Waste Management, is seeking a Geologist/Hydrogeologist (NS) to provide project oversight and comprehensive hydrogeologic reviews for solid waste facilities.

This role reviews permit documents, hydrogeologic and environmental reports and monitoring plans; conducts groundwater and landfill gas assessments and remediation actions; and communicates with staff, stakeholders, and the public.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geology, geosciences, physical science or related field, or engineering with geological coursework.
• Professional Geologist licensure may be required.
• Hybrid telework option available.

Responsibilities

• Review geology and hydrology for site suitability.
• Review water quality and landfill gas monitoring plans.
• Evaluate environmental sampling data for standards compliance.
• Manage environmental site assessments and corrective action.
• Provide technical and regulatory assistance to municipalities, consulting engineers, the public, interest groups, and inter- and intra-agency staff.
• Assist with preparation of permit documents for solid waste facilities.
