• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
• Certified with one of: AFC, CFP, or ChFC.

Job Overview

This position provides coverage in short‑term, surge, and on‑demand situations arising from military needs such as post‑deployment events or the absence of existing counselors. The role delivers the full range of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at installations.

Responsibilities

• Offer one‑on‑one counseling, consultations with commanders or other staff, briefings, presentations, and referral resources beyond the counseling session.
• Work closely with installation and branch points of contact (POCs) to ensure the program meets installation needs and remains within scope.
• Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and families, including assistance with spending plans for extended absences.
• Develop, make available, and publicize informational financial materials.
• Coordinate and deliver a variety of personal financial management classes and workshops covering the military lifecycle (e.g., first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, career events). Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
• Utilize virtual counseling or electronic communication modes (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, or secure teleconference) as authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
• Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
• Communicate with leadership, participate in regular individual and group supervision, share trend and issue information with assigned installations.
• Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
• Perform any additional duties as assigned and relevant to the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus four years of experience or a high school diploma plus six years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• At least three years of financial counseling experience.
• U.S. citizenship and fluent English; bilingual English/Spanish may be required by contract.
• Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
• Successful completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
• Certified with one of the following: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 (based on national data; actual pay adjusted for skills, experience, education, and other job‑related factors). The position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, life, voluntary, and other benefits.
