Job description

The Personal Banker plays a dual role within the banking center by providing both Teller and New Account services. Providing high-quality customer service and a positive banking experience for all customers is essential in this role. The Personal Banker is responsible for opening and closing personal and commercial accounts, maintaining accounts, processing teller transactions (including cashing checks, deposits, withdrawals, transfers), balancing the teller cash drawer, answering phones, safe deposit entries, resolving account issues, and assisting customers as needed. This position involves significant interaction with customers and employees, requiring effective communication skills. Accurate and timely processing of transactions in accordance with established policies is crucial.

New Accounts Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be well-versed in the Bank’s products and services.
  • Open and close accounts using Business Process Manger software, including personal and business checking, savings, IRAs, and Certificates of Deposit.
  • Discuss new account documentation with customers.
  • Order checks and debit cards.
  • Prepare documentation for new accounts following CIP/BSA policies.
  • Follow up on client and loan officer requests promptly.
  • Deposit funds and provide receipts to customers.
  • Inform customers about interest rates, charges, and account details.

Teller Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a cash drawer, processing deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments, and check cashing.
  • Maintain transaction accuracy.
  • Prepare daily ledger entries.
  • Perform vault functions as needed.
  • Assist with coin machine balancing.
  • Address product and service inquiries from customers and prospects.
  • Verify transaction accuracy.
  • Promote and cross-sell Bank products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues proactively.
  • Maintain positive relationships with contacts and customers.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support the Bank’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, and policies.
  • Exhibit excellent communication, analysis, observation, and decision-making skills.
  • Work effectively under pressure in stressful situations.
  • Comply with federal, state, and internal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED plus at least one year in banking (new accounts, teller, or lending).
  • Minimum six months of cash handling experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in typing, computer use, and 10-key calculator.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to handle large currency volumes accurately.
  • Good problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Physical ability to stand most of the day, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform related tasks.
  • Flexible schedule, including Mondays through Saturdays, and physical presence in the bank.
