Job summary

Town Of Zionsville is seeking a Permit Technician within the Planning & Building Department in Zionsville, IN. The role provides administrative and technical support for building permits and land use entitlements, serving as the primary contact for applicants and coordinating plan reviews with multiple departments and agencies.

The incumbent will verify forms, enter data, prepare permits, and manage payments, while maintaining records and responding to inquiries.

Qualifications

• High School Degree (or GED) with 2 years of government/construction/clerical/planning experience.
• Valid driver's license and ability to carry insurance to operate in Indiana.
• Knowledge of building, planning, and zoning principles.
• Experience with GIS, computer mapping, databases or related software.
• Ability to read and comprehend land use documents.
• Background in accounting or financial procedures is a plus.
• Strong English communication, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with intake of applications and answer questions.
• Coordinate with staff and other departments to ensure proper submittal of applications.
• Prepare reports related to department tracking and databases.
• Review documents for completeness before technical review.
• Provide information on department records, codes, procedures, and event calendars.
• Coordinate circulation of plans between team members, departments, and partners.
• Issue permits following review and approval by technical leads.
• Prepare permits and agreements and communicate status to applicants.
• Retrieve and research material from files; maintain records.
