Job summary

The Town of Zionsville is seeking a Permit Technician to provide administrative and technical service for building permits and land use entitlements. You will be the first point of contact for intake, verify forms, submit projects for plan review, and handle occupancy certificates upon completion.

The role requires strong customer service, knowledge of planning and zoning, GIS familiarity, and excellent communication and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus two years of relevant government, construction, administrative/clerical, or planning experience including customer service.
• Valid driver's license and ability to carry and sustain insurance to operate a vehicle in Indiana.
• Knowledge of building, planning, and zoning principles.
• Knowledge of geographic information systems, computer mapping, databases or related applications.
• Ability to read and comprehend construction and land use documents.
• Background in accounting or financial procedures.
• Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in policies and procedures.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including computers and databases.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
• Ability to interact professionally with the public, supervisors, and co-workers.
• Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
• Strong time management, organization, and attention to detail; prioritize multiple tasks.
• Sensitivity to time constraints and resource availability.
• Strong team-building skills across departments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the initial contact for customers related to intake of applications.
• Verify completeness of forms and submit projects for plan review.
• Transmit technical review comments and enter data into the Town database.
• Process temporary and full certificates of occupancy upon project completion.
• Interact with the public and internal staff in a professional, discreet, and helpful manner.
