Job summary

The City of Lexington is hiring Permitting Specialist I, II, or III in North Carolina to issue building permits and certificates of occupancy. The role supports intake, plan review, and customer assistance, utilizing CityView for online permitting.

Strong attention to detail and adherence to state licensing requirements are essential. Three levels offer increasing responsibilities; schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm with bi-weekly pay and occasional evening meetings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of Law & Administration (Code Enforcement) course or ability to obtain within 1 year.
• Commissioned Notary Public and Certified Zoning Official or ability to obtain within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Issue building permits and certificates of occupancy.
• Manage intake for permit applications and review submittals for completeness.
• Facilitate plan review and assist customers with online permitting.
• Coordinate between applicants/contractors and inspectors; schedule inspections.
