Job summary

Brown and Caldwell is seeking an Environmental Permitting Engineer to lead multi‑media permitting and compliance projects in Boise, Idaho. You will collaborate with senior staff and supervise junior engineers while expanding client relationships in the private and municipal sectors.

The role emphasizes strong communication, organization, and ability to manage multiple deadlines. Occasional travel may be required as projects evolve across natural and engineered systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in preparation of plans and permit applications for environmental projects.
  • Mentoring and developing less experienced colleagues.
  • Typically certified in the SMS Framework, progressing through the SMS competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform technical analyses and evaluate sustainable environmental engineering solutions.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize technical reports, calculations, and design documentation.
  • Design environmental protection systems and infrastructure per regulatory and project requirements.
  • Develop facility, watershed, or resource management plans with defined scopes and objectives.
  • Analyze complex data sets and ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance of deliverables.
  • Provide technical support for permitting, regulatory approvals, and coordination with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Support project execution through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • May provide mentorship and knowledge-sharing to grow team capabilities.

Brown and Caldwell has an immediate opening for anPermittingEnvironmentalEngineer to grow our Permitting and Compliance team based in Boise, Idaho. We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who is actively engaged in environmental engineering to advance our relationship with strategic clients (both private sector and municipal) through multi-media permitting and operational compliance primarily in Idaho. This person can help us fulfill our commitment to deliver client success on each and every project we undertake. You will also work with nationally recognized, senior technical staff, as well as have the opportunity to supervise junior staff.

We are looking for a candidate with strong verbal and written communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines. This role offers a chance to mentor and lead more junior technical staff while making a significant impact on environmental management and regulatory compliance. Occasional travel may be required.

You will take the lead in managing and delivering environmental permitting and compliance projects with a focus on multi-media permitting, stormwater management, spill prevention, and operational regulatory compliance, with opportunities to contribute to business development initiatives and cultivate strong client relationships.

TheEnvironmental Permitting Engineerindependently performs a wide range of environmental engineering tasks associated with the analysis, planning, and development of solutions that promote environmental protection, water sustainability, and responsible resource management. Working with limited supervision, this role delivers technical work that improves environmental and public health outcomes across natural and engineered systems. This position addresses environmental and public health protection, mitigation, and prevention of degradation of water, soils, air quality, and habitats. This role may support multiple practice areas including water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, stormwater management, solid and hazardous waste management, and related disciplines.Thisrole independently conductsanalysis, modeling, and design of systems andproducesengineering deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, and recommendation

Responsibilities

  • Has achieved or is working towards achievingprofessionallicense.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Professional Engineering certification for the state of Idaho
  • Excellent technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually essential.
  • Ability to work well independently and in team environments.
  • The candidate should have the ability to successfully collaborate with BC’s local, regional, and national Compliance and Permitting practitioners.
  • Highly responsive, capable of working in a diverse team environment and handling multiple tasks with competing priorities.
  • Positive, can-do attitude, flexible, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment across multiple company teams.
  • Candidate will have strong verbal/written communication skills, report writing, computer (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project / task management skills required; experience with MS Project a plus.
  • Capable of producing high quality products on schedule and within budgets.
  • Candidate should be able to pursue, win, and execute work in a team setting.
Salary Range:

Theanticipatedstarting payrange for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and maybemore or lessdependingupon skills, experience,and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $95,000 - $129,000
