Job summary

Brown and Caldwell in Phoenix seeks a Civil Engineering role to support senior engineers by performing basic design tasks, calculations, and CAD coordination for municipal water and wastewater projects. You will assist with site inspections, data collection, and reporting, gaining foundational experience across planning, design, and construction phases while coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

Typically 0–4 years of related civil/environmental engineering experience; bachelor’s degree

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering is required.
  • 0-4 years of related civil or environmental engineering experience.
  • FE exam progress or registration is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, and construction-phase services for municipal water and wastewater conveyance and treatment infrastructure.
  • Conduct basic site investigations and assessments of existing conditions.
  • Assist with hydraulic calculations for gravity sewer, water distribution, force main, and pumping systems.
  • Review drawings, GIS data, and vendor information to support design development.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary team members across civil, process, mechanical, structural, and electrical disciplines.
  • Support construction-phase services, including submittals and RFIs.

Job description

The Civil Engineering role supports senior engineers by performing basic design tasks, calculations, and CAD Coordination. The role assists in site inspections, data collection, and report preparation, gaining foundational experience in various engineering elements of water/wastewater utility infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, and construction-phase services for municipal water and wastewater conveyance and treatment infrastructure, including pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, and treatment facility improvements.
  • Conduct basic site investigations and assessments of existing conditions for project sites.
  • Assist with hydraulic calculations for gravity sewer, water distribution, force main, and pumping systems under the direction of senior staff.
  • Review record drawings, utility information, survey data, GIS information, and vendor data to support design development and document existing conditions.
  • Identify and confirm compliancewith relevant specifications, drawings, and permits to ensure adherenceto project documents.
  • Assist in the development ofthe followingdesign elements:
  • Site planning
  • Paving and grading
  • Stormwater management
  • Erosionand sedimentcontroldesigns
  • Mechanical above ground piping, valves, and equipment
  • Supportcollection of site and vendor data
  • Support senior engineers with construction phase services
  • Support construction phase services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observation reports, and documentation of field conditions.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary team members, including civil, process mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation and controls, and construction staff.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Skillsand Competencies

  • Applies foundational engineering principles to analyze gravity and pressurized pipe flow, with general familiarity in pumped system concepts.
  • Basic understanding of municipal water and wastewater systems, including pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, reservoirs, treatment facilities, and related appurtenances.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in providing well-defined solutions to routine problems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, standards, details, and permit requirements.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic modeling tools, engineering calculation software, or similar design and analysis tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and coordination with internal project teams.
  • Ability to follow set procedures and guidelines diligently.

Experience

  • Typically,0-4 years ofrelated work experiencein civil or environmental engineering orrelated field.
  • Has passed or is working towards passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam required for Engineer-in-Training registration.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field, or equivalent experience is required.

Salary Range:Theanticipatedstarting payrange for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and maybemore or lessdependingupon skills, experience,and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $64,000 - $87,000
