Our Irvine office has an opening for a self‑motivated engineer with 10 to 15 years of experience to work on projects related to water/wastewater design, conveyance pipeline infrastructure, and provide as needed construction support. Brown and Caldwell offers an exciting opportunity for a self‑motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join our Civil Design Team. This is a great opportunity to work in a growth‑oriented professional consulting firm. The successful candidate will work on various projects for municipal, industrial, and federal clients. We offer a collaborative, multi‑discipline environment to develop innovative, cost‑effective designs for new facilities, expansions, upgrades, and retrofits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver projects through planning, design, and creation of civil engineering plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Supervise the maintenance of BC’s project management delivery requirements.
  • Direct and implement project risk mitigation strategies.
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control efforts for project deliverables.
  • Verify compliance and resolve apparent conflicts with relevant codes, laws, and permits to ensure regulatory adherence in all tasks performed.
  • Serve as a lead technical resource for multiple client service teams.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of BC Standards.
  • Engage on multiple top area pursuits by providing technical contributions for proposals and presentations.
  • Adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

  • Perform engineering work in coordination with the Civil Design Discipline team on water and wastewater projects, including pump stations, linear utilities, site improvements, and retrofits.
  • Assist in project scope and budget development, as well as in project design.
  • Support PM and/or PM providing technical leadership on civil‑site projects—including grading, drainage, site layout, utility, and erosion control plans.
  • Review the work of others for quality and resolve design issues.
  • Assist in the preparation or modification of reports, specifications, plans, permits, and designs.
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies, including site investigations.
  • Use a range of computer software for developing detailed designs.
  • Assist in client contact, communication, and attend client meetings.
  • Lead civil engineering designs, preparing reports, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations for a variety of project elements.
  • Apply knowledge of hydrology and hydraulics for open channels, closed conduits, stormwater management facilities, reservoirs, and erosion control practices.
  • Support the creation of studies, permitting application documents, and alternative analyses.
  • Oversee and complete data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
  • Conduct field work, such as site investigations, as necessary for projects, including on occasion visiting job sites for construction observation duties.
  • Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspections during construction.
  • Perform submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams, including other disciplines.
  • Coordinate civil project work with surveyors, geotechnical, architectural, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers, and consultants.
  • Contribute to company standard detail and specification development and updates.
  • Demonstrate strong sense of urgency and self‑initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Additional duties may include marketing, business development, project management assistance, professional development, proposal preparation, and other business‑related functions.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge sharing to help less experienced team members grow.

Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of civil engineering or related field work experience.
  • History of leading large‑scale projects and initiatives with strategic importance.
  • Professionally licensed.
  • Certified in the SMS Framework; progressing through SMS competencies.
Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in municipal and/or industrial civil design including water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and site work; construction administration preferred.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D (or newer).
  • A Professional Engineering license required, plus ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
  • Experience working with local and area permitting agencies for site and stormwater permits.
  • Demonstrated use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Experience with ProjectWise, BIM 360, and Bluebeam desired.
  • Experience with Navisworks 2013 (or newer) desirable.
  • Experience coordinating with staff performing Civil 3D beneficial.
  • Experience with engineering calculation software such as MathCAD desirable.
  • Experience with hydrology and hydraulic modeling software (e.g., HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, Hydraflow Storm Sewers) desirable.
  • Field/construction experience desirable.
  • GIS experience desirable.
  • Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field, or equivalent experience required.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Salary Range

The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending on skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location B: $128,000 – $175,000
