Qualifications

Hourly Range: $25.53-$32.29

Position Summary

Incumbents are responsible and accountable for conducting complex criminalrecord, mental health, and other document reviews in conjunction with theissuance of concealed handgun permits and registration of sex offenders.Provides non-criminal fingerprinting service for various jobs for the citizensof Mecklenburg County and surrounding counties.

Incumbents will also be cross trained in processing concealed weaponapplications. All staff are also cross trained in the Sex OffenderRegistration. Individual will have direct contact with the publicincluding sex offenders and must be very discreet in handling difficultsituations. All areas of the division are to remain confidential and must notbe disseminated outside of the agency, so confidentiality is a must. Customerservice is a key part of this position.

Will also be trained in all State and Federal required areas for processing thepermits and will be required to become DCI Certified and obtain a N. C. NotaryPublic certification. This is a very diverse area of the Sheriff’s Officethat operates at a fast pace. The most desirable candidate will be aself-starter, able to multi-task, and have strong organizational skills.Required to stand for an 8-hour shift if assigned to a certain post. Requiredto stand for an 8-hour shift if assigned to specific post. Spanish Speakingpreferred.

Hours are Monday thru Friday, 8:00 – 5:00. Additionally, dailyresponsibilities will entail a cheerful, pleasant, and professional demeanor inaccordance with Sheriff’s Office General Orders accompanied with a high degreeof tact and diplomacy. Regular & dependable attendance is essential.

Qualifications

High School Diploma, or G.E.D., and one year of specialized or technicaltraining, or equivalent. Requires two years’ experience in business,administrative support, or criminal justice. Must be able to obtain aDepartment of Criminal Justice (DCI) certification within 6 months of hire.
