Job summary

City of Kalispell is seeking a Building Department Clerk/Permit Tech in the Planning Department to process and track permits, collect fees, and assist the public. This AFSCME position requires basic office skills and knowledge of building codes, with duties spanning data entry, reports, and customer service.

Under the Development Services Director, you will issue permits, maintain records, coordinate inspections, and support the Building Official.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with typing, accounting and data processing coursework.
  • Two years' experience in an office environment.
  • ICC Permit Technician certification desired within six months; Crystal Reports knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide zoning, building and related code information to permit applicants and the public; guide filling out applications.
  • Collect fees for permits and related services; enter data and prepare monthly reports.
  • Receive questions via counter/phone/email and route to appropriate staff.
  • Process permit applications; issue permits after verification and approvals; collect CO sign-offs.
  • Maintain master address and permit records; manage data on permitting activity.
