Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs--Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System (GLA) in West Los Angeles seeks a Registered Nurse for the PRE/PACU.

The RN provides specialized nursing care before and after surgical, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures, including assessments, anesthesia recovery, pain and airway management, education, and coordination with leadership and quality initiatives. Qualifications

• Graduate of a nursing program approved by ACEN/CCNE at time of completion.
• Possess current full, active, unrestricted RN license in the United States.
• Option to pursue BSN via master’s-level bridge program if applicable.
• For foreign education, obtain formal degree equivalency validation.
• GNT exception allows temporary appointment while pursuing licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized nursing care pre- and post-anesthesia across perioperative continuum.
• Perform preoperative assessments including H&P reviews and consent verification.
• Prepare patients for procedures, establish IV access, assist with blocks.
• Monitor for anesthesia-related risks and manage airway and pain as needed.
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the EHR with ASPAN/VHA standards.
