Job description

Perinatal Sonographer – Lehigh Valley Health Network

Summary
Performs a variety of high‑risk obstetric ultrasound examinations and procedures using established AIUM protocols. Applies clinical judgment based on the patient’s condition and synthesizes findings with medical history to provide accurate diagnostic information.

Job Duties
  • Records anatomical, pathological and physiological data for physician interpretation.
  • Maintains electronic patient charts and processes sonographic data.
  • Uses the ultrasound documentation/reporting system and EMR to store images and reports.
  • Collects pertinent medical history prior to exams and prepares preliminary reports as requested.
  • Applies independent judgment to differentiate normal from pathologic findings during exams.
  • Selects appropriate transducers and adjusts equipment for optimal imaging.
  • Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes corrective action when possible.
  • Explains studies and procedures to patients, ensuring they are well informed.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians and colleagues to support quality and patient safety.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and technical school diploma in Ultrasonography or associate’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to implement advanced imaging techniques (3D/4D) when medically applicable.
  • Knowledge of sonography equipment and related applications.
  • Participation in workflow and safety improvement initiatives.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support – State of Pennsylvania within 90 days.
  • RDMS – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer / ARDMS – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification upon hire.
  • NT – Nuchal Translucency – State of Pennsylvania certification within 180 days.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or a related business discipline.
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40–50 lbs. Tasks include pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers, performing lateral transfers up to 50 lbs, walking 8–10 miles per shift, and sometimes kneeling, bending, squatting, or performing CPR.
