Job description

The Performance Activities Manager leads the performance efforts of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts Music Conservatory and Interdisciplinary Conservatory, and supports all activities connected to the delivery of high-quality ensemble and production experiences in these operations.

The Manager collaborates with faculty and administration to achieve professional levels of excellence and efficiency in every aspect of the performance life of the Conservatory, such as identifying venues, plotting rehearsal schedules and performance dates, and identifying rental music and equipment vendors. This position reports to the CCAA Senior Director of Scheduling and Operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Experience in ensemble management, concert or production management, or another area of performing arts administration.
  • Significant knowledge of performance management and production in arts organizations, including rehearsal and performance scheduling, venue logistics, and technical production.
  • Ability to manage multiple productions and calendars at once and meet fixed deadlines.
  • Ability to build and monitor budgets and process expenditures accurately.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage vendor, rental, and venue contracts.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and schedule staff and student workers.
  • Excellent organization, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure with diverse personalities while completing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and with scheduling or calendar software.
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours during rehearsals, production weeks, and performances.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music, performing arts, arts administration, or a related field. Equivalent work history will be considered.
  • Three years of relevant experience in ensemble management, concert or production management, or performing arts administration.
  • At least one year of experience supervising staff, student workers, or production crews.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in music, performing arts, or arts administration.
  • Experience in a conservatory or higher education setting.
  • Experience with opera or other fully staged productions.
  • Ability to read music and familiarity with orchestral, choral, and jazz repertoire and rental music practices.

Equipment Operated

Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/multi-function device, scanner, and telephone).

Working Conditions

A normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. The position is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office, performance venues, and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Evening and weekend hours are required during rehearsals, production weeks, and performances. Travel within the local or regional setting is required.
