Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health's SAGE Concord offers a Relief Veterinary Technician role in Emergency care in Concord, CA. This casual, as-needed position supports an expert emergency team delivering advanced nursing care to critically ill patients.

We welcome RVTs or experienced Senior Veterinary Assistants. Competitive hourly pay includes an overnight differential and growth opportunities within a leading specialty hospital network in Northern California.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Current California RVT license highly preferred.
• Emergency or specialty veterinary experience required.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.
• Ability to obtain VACSP within 60 days if not licensed RVT.

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency.
• Monitor critically ill, unstable, and recovering patients.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, CRIs, and other treatments.
• Assist with emergency procedures, diagnostics, and patient stabilization.
• Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sampling, and monitoring.

Relief Veterinary Technician – Emergency

$30.00–$40.00/hour (DOE) + $5.50/hour Shift Differential (6:00 PM–6:00 AM)

Join the Emergency & Critical Care team at SAGE Concord and enjoy the flexibility of relief work while providing advanced nursing care for critically ill and injured patients. Whether you're a Registered Veterinary Technician or an experienced Senior Veterinary Assistant, you'll work alongside board-certified specialists, emergency clinicians, and an experienced multidisciplinary team in one of Northern California's premier specialty hospitals.

Relief Requirements: This is a casual, as-needed position designed for experienced veterinary professionals looking to pick up extra shifts. Relief team members are scheduled based on hospital needs and availability.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

• Triage emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency.
• Monitor critically ill, unstable, and recovering patients.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, CRIs, and other treatments.
• Assist with emergency procedures, diagnostics, and patient stabilization.
• Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and patient monitoring.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation.
• Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners.
• Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are clean, stocked, and ready for use.
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.

What You Bring

• High school diploma required.
• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license highly preferred.
• Previous Emergency or Specialty Veterinary experience required.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer (not required for licensed RVTs).
• Strong mathematical skills for calculating drug dosages, CRIs, client estimates, and invoices.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
