Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is seeking a Senior Lab Assistant - Per Diem to join our team. The role involves screening and accessioning specimens, preparing samples for analysis, and ensuring proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory materials.

Responsibilities include front-end and back-end processing, specimen quality assurance, inventory management of blood products, and phlebotomy services for inpatients, with emphasis on accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• To qualify you must have a High School Degree with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluid.
• Knowledge of computer applications especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Screening and accessioning specimens in the LIS.
• Maintain supplies and reagents; notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
• Receive goods and document according to policy.
• Perform front end processing of samples (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport).
• Perform back-end processing for storage and disposal according to policy.
• Dispose of department waste per regulations.
• Manage logs for temperature and humidity of equipment and work areas.
• Assist with phlebotomy services for inpatients.
