Job summary

Wareham Public Schools is seeking qualified Substitute School Nurses to provide nursing coverage across Pre-K through 12th grade in Wareham, Massachusetts. The role focuses on student health, safety, confidentiality, and a welcoming health environment.

Responsibilities include assessing illnesses, administering medications, implementing care plans, and coordinating with families and school staff. Strong nursing knowledge and communication skills are essential, with background checks required.

Qualifications

• Current Massachusetts RN license in good standing.
• CPR and First Aid certification; AED training preferred.
• School nursing experience or experience with children/adolescents preferred.
• Knowledge of pediatric nursing, medication administration, emergency care, and school health practices.
• Strong communication, organization, judgment, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with students of varying ages and medical needs while maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to students per professional standards, policies, and MA regulations.
• Assess and respond to illnesses, injuries, and health concerns.
• Administer medications and treatments as authorized and documented.
• Implement health care plans and emergency action plans.
• Monitor students with chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, allergies, etc.).
• Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and health providers.
• Maintain confidential health records and documentation.
• Assist with health screenings, immunization compliance, and health requirements.
• Provide health education and promote healthy practices.
• Respond to medical emergencies and activate procedures as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean health office.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
