Job summary

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) II RN Student to join the patient care team.

Under the direction of the RN, you will perform clinical tasks including blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, applying simple dressings, and using aseptic technique while responding to emergencies with Heartsaver CPR/AED. You will help patients and families, ensure safety, and participate in unit operations, staffing, and documentation, while upholding

Qualifications

• Anticipates and identifies patient safety risks and takes action to reduce risks.
• Maintains an atmosphere reflecting the mission and values of the organization.
• Organizes time and prioritizes patient care needs, coordinating with other staff.
• Knows hospital policies, procedures, and codes and communicates with RN.
• Fosters teamwork and collaborative care across disciplines.
• Provides patient and family education on care items and what to expect.
• Maintains competence in skills such as EKGs, blood glucose, dressing changes, CPR/AED.
• Participates in quality improvement and keeps patients safe and comfortable.
• Performs patient care tasks including admission/discharge coordination and ambulation assistance.

Responsibilities

• Assist the RN with clinical tasks and patient care activities.
• Respond to patient needs and family inquiries on the unit.
• Use aseptic technique and monitor patient conditions during shifts.
• Communicate patient status and care requirements to the RN and team.
• Support 1:1 observation as required and ensure safe care practices.
