Job summary

Planned Parenthood North Central States in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Per diem Registered Nurse to support reproductive health services. The RN will perform patient intake, labs, contraceptive supply, and education while ensuring patient safety and privacy under HIPAA and clinic policies.

Responsibilities include assisting clinicians, inventory management, and providing unbiased information about options. This role is hourly/non-exempt with per diem scheduling and SEIU union representation.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state you are applying for the role
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certificate for healthcare providers

Responsibilities

• Interview and screen patients, document in electronic medical record, prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture and communicate results.
• Provide factual patient education and non-directive counseling on birth control options.
• Inform patients about all options in the event of unintended pregnancy and provide supporting materials.
• Provide information about abortion options and differences between medication and surgical abortion.
• Refer patients per protocol and ensure follow-up and care plan documentation.
• Follow all laws regarding mandated reporting, abortion services, and HIPAA.
• Provide contraceptive supplies and med administration and manage clinical inventory.
• Communicate protocols to clinicians and staff; keep clinic manuals up to date.
• Supervise nursing functions as delegated by Health Center Manager or clinician.
• Participate in onboarding and cross-training of staff; support coverage at other centers.
• Follow state mandatory reporting requirements; collaborate across neighborhoods as needed.
• Perform ultrasound services per Medical Standards and Guidelines.
