Job summary

St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO is seeking a detail-oriented Phlebotomy Technician for the Clinical Lab. This PRN/per diem role involves drawing blood samples, preparing patients, and ensuring specimen quality for laboratory testing.

Shifts are 8 hours, with options 5:00 am–1:30 pm or 1:00 pm–5:30 pm, supporting patient care and accurate diagnostics. Responsibilities include venipuncture, proper labeling, specimen transport, and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, or equivalent required.
• BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current, required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical laboratory experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for blood draws, explain procedures, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process
• Responsible for correct blood collection, draw blood from patients using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or other techniques; ensure proper identification and labeling of specimens
• Organize, handle, and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing, and ensure all specimens are properly processed and stored
• Adhere to quality control and safety protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens and ensure accurate test results
• Maintain and calibrate phlebotomy equipment and supplies, ensure everything is in working order and properly sanitized
• Perform more complex or specialized phlebotomy procedures as required, often with minimal supervision
