Job summary

Holy Cross Health in Silver Spring, MD seeks a Phlebotomy Technician for per diem, as-needed coverage with varied shifts including weekends and holidays. Candidates must be working phlebotomists to qualify and have demonstrated competency in specimen collection and patient identification.

You will perform phlebotomy, assist in specimen processing, labeling, accessioning, and act as a liaison between physicians, nursing units, and the laboratory.

Qualifications

• High School graduate, GED or higher required.
• Six (6) months previous professional experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting strongly preferred.
• One-year recent phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Must be able to perform venipuncture procedures without assistance.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy specimen collection on all patients per SOPs.
• Identify patients and label specimens 100% accurately.
• Process and accession specimens; confirm patient and specimen information.
• Serve as primary lab liaison between physicians, nursing units, offices, patients and lab sections.
• Provide test status information and clarify physician orders.
• Generate reports for charting and assist in charting to patient care units.
• Perform reporting functions and greet incoming customers to Laboratory Services.
