Qualifications

• High School Diploma or five years’ full-time experience in a related healthcare field/reference laboratory setting required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant/Phlebotomy Program preferred; or five years’ full-time experience as a phlebotomist or Medical Assistant (actively drawing blood) required.
• Phlebotomy Certification or Medical Assistant Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Receives assignment and performs duties according to established standards and practices.
• Performs phlebotomy tasks including venipuncture, finger sticks and heel sticks on patients of various age groups.
• Attends to the safety and comfort of the patient; follows safety practices and AIDET; maintains privacy and respect.
• Reviews doctor’s script or requisition in Outpatient Department and verifies against tests ordered in the computer system.
• Assembles supplies, identifies patient using two forms of identification, and performs venipunctures in hospital and outpatient areas.
• Labels specimens at chair/bedside with correct identification; handles stat and timed venipuncture requests promptly.
