Job summary

Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA is seeking a dedicated phlebotomist to join our Laboratory team. You will collect blood samples from patients of all ages, follow safety protocols, verify patient identity, and ensure accurate labeling and timely delivery of specimens.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years hospital phlebotomy experience, valid certification or eligible within one year, strong customer service, and excellent English communication.

Qualifications

• Must have phlebotomy certification or be certification eligible. Certification is required within one year of hire.
• Minimum of 1–3 years of experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital laboratory setting.
• Excellent customer service and phlebotomy skills; ability to follow directions with minimal supervision.
• Excellent command of oral and written English; positive interpersonal communication skills and good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages using approved venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Verify patient identity using at least two identifiers; ensure proper labeling at bedside.
• Prepare, label, and deliver specimens to appropriate departments within required time frames.
• Access and review electronic lab orders; enter collection data into EMR.
• Provide compassionate, professional care and communicate procedures clearly.
• Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control policies; handle biohazardous materials safely.
• Monitor and restock collection supplies; notify supervisors of equipment or inventory needs.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, laboratory personnel, and physicians to coordinate timely specimen collection.
• Respond to STAT, timed, and critical collection requests promptly.
• Perform specialized collections (e.g., blood cultures, glucose tolerance tests) as needed.
