Responsibilities

• Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture and capillary techniques.
• Verify patient identity with two identifiers and label specimens at collection.
• Prepare, label and deliver specimens to labs within required time frames.
• Enter collection data into the EMR accurately and timely.
• Provide compassionate care and communicate procedures clearly to patients.
• Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and infection-control policies and wear PPE as required.
• Restock trays and notify on equipment or supply needs.
• Coordinate with nursing, lab, and physicians; participate in handoffs.
• Respond to STAT and critical collection requests promptly.
• Perform specialized collections (e.g., blood cultures) as needed.
