Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Pharmacy Student Intern to support the pharmacy team under supervision of a Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Supervisors. The role focuses on preparing and distributing medications and IV solutions in accordance with policies.

Responsibilities include familiarizing with medications, distributing cabinetry, labeling, repackaging, handling controlled substances, preparing solutions, restocking, aseptic compounding in laminar flow hood, and OR pharmacy support.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited pharmacy degree program and have completed year 2.
• Registration Pharmacy Student Intern required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Develops familiarity with medications: generic and trade names, dosages, schedules, conversions between metric and apothecary systems.
• Distributes automated dispensing cabinetry with dosage forms and monitors discharge/transfer lists.
• Delivers medications with appropriate labels.
• Repackages tablets, capsules, and liquids; operates re-packaging machine; assigns expiration dates.
• Handles and distributes controlled substances and investigational drugs.
• Prepares topical and irrigation solutions.
• Restocks floor stock/automated dispensing cabinetry.
• Checks for expired medications and maintains stock levels.
• Prepares and initiates worklists and labels; assembles drugs for compounding.
• Initiates aseptic technique in compounding parenteral admixtures in laminar flow hood; refills OR kits.
• Maintains stock in the OR pharmacy and completes related charging/documentation.
