Job summary

Dockside Dermatology is seeking an experienced Per Diem Mohs Histotechnician to support our Mohs Micrographic Surgery team and work closely with Dr. Stephanie Clements.

The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail and independence, and can maintain accuracy in a fast-paced surgical environment while processing Mohs specimens. Responsibilities include preparing and staining tissue, quality control, and maintaining equipment and records.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited histotechnology/histologic technician program or equivalent qualifying education and experience.
• Previous Mohs histotechnology experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with grossing/orienting Mohs specimens, cryostat sectioning, embedding, and staining.
• Experience producing high-quality frozen sections for Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control, specimen handling, documentation, and safety standards.
• Familiarity with CLIA and OSHA laboratory requirements.
• Strong understanding of tissue orientation and Mohs mapping procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to recognize technical problems or artifacts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
• Accurately gross, orient, ink, embed, freeze, cut, and stain tissue specimens according to established Mohs laboratory procedures.
• Produce high-quality frozen sections for microscopic examination by the Mohs surgeon.
• Perform routine H&E staining and other staining procedures as required.
• Maintain proper tissue orientation throughout the histology process.
• Review slides for technical quality and artifacts before presenting to the physician.
• Accurately accession, label, log, and track specimens and slides.
• Verify patient identification, specimen integrity, tissue maps, and accompanying documentation.
• Maintain the cryostat and Mohs laboratory equipment; perform routine cleaning and maintenance.
• Maintain quality-control documentation and laboratory records.
• Ensure the Mohs laboratory follows CLIA, OSHA, infection-control, and safety requirements.
• File and maintain patient slides and laboratory records properly.
• Monitor inventory and notify management when supplies need reordering.
• Communicate any specimen, equipment, staining, or quality concerns to the Mohs surgeon.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient laboratory environment.

Dockside Dermatology is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Per Diem Mohs Histotechnician to support our Mohs Micrographic Surgery team and work closely with Dr. Stephanie Clements.

We are looking for a histotechnician with excellent attention to detail and strong experience preparing high-quality Mohs frozen sections. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, comfortable working independently, and able to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Position: Per Diem

Schedule: Wednesdays & Fridays

Department: Mohs Micrographic Surgery

Practice: Dockside Dermatology

Physician: Dr. Stephanie Clements

Hours: Vary with surgical volume

Responsibilities

• Prepare tissue specimens for Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
• Accurately gross, orient, ink, embed, freeze, cut, and stain tissue specimens according to established Mohs laboratory procedures.
• Produce high-quality frozen sections that allow for optimal microscopic examination by the Mohs surgeon.
• Perform routine H&E staining and other staining procedures as required.
• Maintain proper tissue orientation throughout the histology process.
• Carefully review slides for technical quality, including complete tissue representation, folds, tears, staining quality, and other artifacts before presenting slides to the physician.
• Accurately accession, label, log, and track specimens and slides.
• Verify patient identification, specimen integrity, tissue maps, and accompanying documentation.
• Maintain the cryostat and other Mohs laboratory equipment in proper working condition.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain required quality-control documentation and laboratory records.
• Ensure the Mohs laboratory follows applicable CLIA, OSHA, infection-control, and safety requirements.
• File and maintain patient slides and laboratory records properly.
• Monitor laboratory inventory and notify management when supplies need to be reordered.
• Identify and promptly communicate any specimen, equipment, staining, or quality concerns to the Mohs surgeon.
• Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient laboratory environment.

What We Are Looking For

The right candidate will take pride in the quality of every slide produced. This position requires someone meticulous, consistent, and able to recognize when a section or stain does not meet the standard needed for accurate interpretation.

Because the histotechnician plays an essential role in the Mohs process, we are specifically looking for someone who understands that speed is important, but quality and accuracy come first.

Schedule: Per diem, Wednesdays and Fridays, based on Mohs surgery scheduling and practice needs. Hours may vary depending on surgical volume.
