Job summary

Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) in Eden Prairie, MN seeks a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER team. You’ll assist with triage, treatments, nursing care, diagnostics, and anesthesia monitoring under supervision, delivering compassionate care to pets and their families.

You’ll grow through guided training, CPR instruction, and mentorship. Flexible per diem schedules support balance, while you contribute to a supportive, learning-focused environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR software knowledge.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment.
• Stand for prolonged hours; lift up to 25 kg solo and up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with strong odors.
• Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating or as-needed basis.
• Works well in a fast-paced environment with diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, from bloodwork to imaging.
• Work with technicians and veterinarians to set up and monitor anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medications.
• Assist during all moments of care: outpatient or inpatient.
• Join patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities like anesthesia support and ultrasound.
