Job summary

The Veterinary Emergency Group in San Jose, CA is seeking a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant (Relief). You will support triage, treatments, and monitoring, while learning from credentialed technicians and veterinarians.

This role offers flexible schedules, CPR training, and pathways for growth within our 24/7 ER network. You’ll work closely with a dynamic team to deliver compassionate care to pets and their families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Enrolled in AVMA-accredited veterinary tech program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and EMR familiarity.
• Excellent communicator with pets' families and your team.
• Ability to stand long hours and lift up to 25 kg.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Comfort in a fast-paced, diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and triage incoming patients to guide them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics.
• Assist with anesthesia setup and monitoring with credentialed staff.
• Manage IV fluids, transfusions, and medication administration.
• Participate in all care moments, from exam room to treatment area.
• Join rounds and maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certified Rescuer training.
• Grow into advanced roles through guided training.
