Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified individuals to apply for the Per Diem Hearing Officer position in the Office of Labor and Employee Relations. This role presides over disciplinary hearings and requires meticulous legal and analytical skills to ensure fair proceedings.

Responsibilities include taking testimony, drafting findings, preparing comprehensive reports, informing employees of rights, and applying New Jersey laws and Civil Service rules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Master's in Labor Relations or a Law degree with NJ license (preferred).
• Five (5) years or more of professional level experience in labor relation and disciplinary hearings.

Responsibilities

• Presides over disciplinary hearings with due process and board protocols.
• Takes testimony and establishes a record.
• Makes findings of fact and case recommendations on disciplinary actions.
• Drafts comprehensive case-specific reports.
• Informs employees of their rights, entitlements and available services.
• Analyzes cases in light of applicable laws and Civil Service rules.
