Job summary

UNITED COUNSELING SERVICE OF BENNINGTON COUNTY INC in Vermont seeks a Direct Support Professional for specialized services. This on-call per diem role supports a person with an intellectual disability or autism in community settings as part of a 24/7 team.

Responsibilities include direct service, daily living support, health monitoring, safety, record keeping, and collaboration with clinical staff. Requires HS diploma; valid driver’s license and reliable transportation nearby.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Direct Service experience preferred.
• Experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct services in a respectful, friendly, professional manner aligned with client choice.
• Facilitate conversations and activities matching the individual’s interests.
• Offer guidance, companionship, emotional support, and supervision for safety.
• Follow Medicaid Specialized Services regulations and implement treatment plans.
• Document data per ISA and behavior support plans; complete timesheets and expenses.
• Advocate for the individual with family and community; connect to resources.
• Support participation in community events and teach safety and social skills.
• Monitor emotional and physical well-being; assist with personal care when needed.
• Attend medical appointments and coordinate follow-up; provide transportation.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to support mental health needs.
• Develop and follow safety plans for community outings; understand Vermont safety practices.
• Ensure adherence to court conditions of release and/or Act 248 orders when applicable.
• Share information with staff in a confidential manner; participate in team meetings.
